Some tasty Chanukah treats!

What foods do you think of when you hear of the holiday of Chanukah?

Latkes, donuts, chocolate coins… to name just a few!

Already a few weeks in advance one can see the bakeries and supermarkets displaying numerous flavors of donuts with a variety of fillings, toppings, colors, and then some! It’s usually an activity in my house to make our own, but this year I said- no more frying donuts at home, because then e eat a ton! So instead, we will just buy donuts once and everyone will get their donut fix! (We’ll see if that works!)

Well we got some delicious cheesecake donuts, but then this kid came home with a donut from school, and that one came home with a donut from shul, and then another asked for a different type when shopping in the supermarket…. You get the point!

So with all these beautiful donuts around, they were just looking so inviting! Besides, I had my speedlight sitting out on a lightstand, and a large diffuser hanging on another lightstand ( my diffuser is a large disc made of translucent white material to soften the light), so it was very easy to get photographing my lovely “models”.

I took out some colored card stock to use as a surface/background, and chose the color that seemed to compliment the donuts best. Then I laid the donuts on the paper, adjusted the positioning, and started photographing. I adjusted the lighting, sprinkled some crumbs around the donuts, and after a few more adjustments here and there, I got a lovely photo of the cheesecake donuts.

I was getting my donut fix just by looking at the photo!

Some more donuts made their way through the front door, and they were looking so pretty I decided to photograph those as well!

I chose a pink paper to draw out the pink sprinkles and give a real color pop! Wow- the whole image sure jumps at me!

And then I decided to put a few of the different flavor donuts together with a several colored papers to give a real color spin! I love playing with color in my photos!
